Narrative
a. definition of Narrative Text
Narrative
is simply telling a story sequential order. It is usually tells a person, a
place and an animal or a thing. It is usually reality or fictive. It can be
about story, legend story, short story etc.
Social function of the text is to amuse, entertain and
to deal with actual or various exprience in different ways.
b. Generic Structure of
the text are
- Orientation : Introducing the participants and informing the time and the place. It also introduce some characters involved in this genre.
- Coplication : Describing the rising crises which the participants have to do with or among participant relationship in a process of social interaction.
- Resolution : Showing the way of participant to solve the crises, better or worse. The end can be open ended or close ended. Open ended is conclusion that depends on the perception of the readers. Whereas, close ended is end of a story in which the conclution is clearly stated.
- Coda which summarizes the point of story and moral message we may get.
c. Language forms of
narrative
- Using processes verbs : tell, says, narrates
- Using Temporal conjunction : chonological order.
- Using simple past tense : present tense, and future tense, present prefect, persent continous, and past continous.
2. Descriptive
a. Definition of
Descriptive
Descriptive
is say what a person or thing is like. Its purpose is to decribe and reveal a
particular person, place or thing.
The
following might help you how a descriptive paragraph is developed. Look at the

b. Generic Structure of
descriptive
There
is no specific elaboration on what has to be included in a descrptive, however
this means that it depends on what types of writing: paragraph or essay even
complex essay. If you are to write a paragraph, it has to have three main
component in the structure as described as below;
- Topic Sentence => complate sentence, the most general sentence, topic and controlling idea.
- Supporting sentence => supporting detail
- Concluding sentence => summary, logical conclusion, suggestion, prediction
- Logical development
c. Language forms or
language features of descriptive
- using linking verb or verb of senses such as look, smell, taste, see, seem.
- using three parameter of sense: visual, auditory, and smell.
- Using spatial order in which preposition precedes the verb and the subjects
- Using multiple tenses based on the time: past, present and future.
3. Expository
a. Definition of expository
a paragraph that explains or anlyzes a topic is an expository paragraph. expository can be diveded into several model of writing such as as process paragraph and prosedure paragraph.
b. Generic Structure
You may use present or past tense or even future. seen from the paragraph context it has to have three components of paragraph:
- 1. Topic Sentense
- 2. Supporting Sentences : example, detail, charts
- 3. Concluding
c. Language Feature
- 1. Using process verbs
- 2. Using identfinite
- 3. Using question work mark
- 4. Using charts, graphics, and other visual aids.
- 5. Using present tenses either verbal or nominal
